An invitation to artists, hosts, and curious neighbors

Cabaret Month
in Duncanville.

Imagine an October when a favorite restaurant offers a late-night song, a storefront becomes a little gallery, and a familiar room hosts an unexpected performance.

Our four featured evenings would be the anchor. Artists, independent producers, businesses, and property owners could add their own small-scale experiences, each shaped by the people and places behind it.

01 / Presented by us

Four featured nights

A Very Modest Opera develops its own ticketed October cabarets, with revenue supporting working artists and the cost of producing memorable evenings.

02 / Hosted by neighbors

Pop-ups of every size

Restaurants, artists, galleries, and other local hosts could create one-night performances, exhibitions, listening rooms, or supper-club collaborations. Each host sets its own format and admission.

03 / Open to discovery

Little surprises

Artist salons, songs and stories, shop-window art, and short performances could bring more life to the month. Some experiences may be free; others may be ticketed.

Cabaret Month in Duncanville is a proposed community initiative, with participating artists, businesses, events, and locations to be confirmed. Each activation is subject to the host’s agreement and applicable approvals.

Art belongs
in the room.

The cabaret can be a customer, a commissioner, and a place where local artists are seen. The room itself can become a work of art.

01

Art in the Room

The cabaret can feature rotating exhibitions and original works for sale now, and commission permanent pieces when a dedicated home becomes viable. Local artists could also create posters, stage environments, projections, and installations that shape individual performances. Each collaboration should offer fair compensation and opportunities for artists to meet new audiences and collectors.

Activate Downtown Spaces

With willing property owners, vacant storefronts, shop windows, and underused rooms could host temporary galleries, art installations, and small performances. Every project would begin with a site-specific concept and review of accessibility, safety, insurance, costs, and City approvals. The goal is paid artist opportunities, fresh activity for nearby businesses, and evidence of what local audiences will support.

Build the audience.
Then the room.

A Very Modest Opera is a community cabaret supported by the Duncanville Arts Foundation. Its work begins with artists, neighbors, hospitality partners, and spaces that can welcome intimate performances.

We are developing a season of possibilities, using small-scale experiences to learn what audiences will support. Strong participation can create more paid artist opportunities, stronger relationships with local businesses, and a foundation for a future cabaret home.
